These two videos (“REGALE ME ” & “TELL ME, TELL ME! ”) use the same script with different sets of actors. After filming, I edited each video based on the vibes at hand. There are many similarities beyond just the obvious of the script itself, as you’ll see. Still, it is the differences, both subtle and large, that prove the experiment to be worthwhile and enlightening. I believe in the idea that a film is a kind of living thing from script to edit. And nothing proves this snooty, highfalutin tripe I’m espousing more than a sketch about skat. While I love pre-production and all the planning in the world, there must still be room for adapting. The influence of all the artists involved in a film —writers, actors, directors, camera, sound, light, editors, and so on— is essential to the unique result. That collaboration is the surf itself. When I plan a film, I plan for the creative shifts. I am not rigid, but I am prepared.
